Smith & Brown Interview

Where are you right now?

We’re in our little “rave cave” studio here in Glasgow.

What was the biggest highlight for you in 2024, and what does 2025 hold?

2024 was an incredible year for both of us, personally and musically.

Reece celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife, Julie, while Andy finally purchased and moved into his new home.

Musically, remixing Peetu S was a standout highlight. We’ve both been fans of Peetu’s work for years, so being asked to remix one of his tracks was a true honor.

For 2025, we’re focusing on more original releases and, fingers crossed, playing live more often.

Who are your top 3 producers of all time, and in what ways have they inspired you?

Two of these are probably very obvious, as our sets usually feature a few of their tracks! Hands down, David Forbes and Mark Sherry. From the start, we’ve been drawn to edgier, techier sounds, and these two are absolute masters of that style. On top of that, we only realized a few years ago that some of the iconic “rave” and “hardcore” tracks we grew up with were also produced by these legends.

We’d also have to say Fred Baker. His productions are iconic across the board, but for us, it’s all about “Genetic” and “Total Blackout.” Enough said!

What is your favourite piece of software for music production?

FL Studio, without a doubt. We’ve both been using it since we were teenagers, and it’s been with us through every stage of our journey. It’s so versatile and intuitive, and it lets us bring our ideas to life quickly and seamlessly.
