Nick Slater Interview

Where are you now and what are you doing?

My brand-new EP on Techburst Records is coming out on July 27th. I’m really happy to be back, especially because I don’t release music very often due to my full-time job. I’m currently working on more tracks – two of them are already finished and just waiting for their turn. So I hope you’ll hear more from me this year than usual.

What was the biggest highlight for you in 2024 and what does the rest of 2025 hold?

One thing I’m especially happy about is debuting on Aria Digital with my track “Infected” and huge support from many artists like Aly & Fila, David Forbes, Laura May or Mark Sherry himself.

What can you expect from me this year?  As I mentioned, second EP is done and ready to release, I also made my very first collaboration with very good German producer and just left few details to wrap up it. As a bonus, I can reveal that I’m in early talks with a master of his genre and if all goes well, we’ll release EP together. That would be the biggest achievement of my career so far. I can’t say more for now, but I truly believe it will happen this year so stay tuned!

The second half of this year will be full of challenges for me and not just musically.  My studio is still under-construction, it’s going slower than I expected, but you’ll see the first results by the end of this year. I’d also love to get some more bookings – so promoters, don’t be shy, feel free to reach out via socials 😉

Who are your top 3 producers of all time and in what ways have they inspired you?

It’s hard to pick up just three, but If I had to go back to the beginning… My journey with electronic music began the first time I heard Robert Miles – Children. It was in 95 or 96… That was the moment I knew I wanted to become a techno producer. Back then, we used to call all electronic music “techno” before we started dividing EDM into subgenres. But moving on to my top 3 producers…

ATB
I believe the sound of the piano is one of the two most beautiful sounds we can experience. It’s also a key element of his music. The way he blends dance, trance and ambient is pure genius. He’s incredibly creative, has released countless hits and has stayed active on the scene for 30 years. That’s impressive. He’s my favourite producer. Now you might ask – how does this relate to the music I create today? That leads me to my next top producer.

KAI TRACID
Thanks to him, I discovered the second most beautiful sound in music, and I probably don’t need to say what it is, haha. I instantly fell in love with the sound of Roland TB-303. This is another great example of how you can creatively combine trance and acid. His music often carries powerful messages that many listeners can relate to. Other Kai’s projects like Kenji Ogura, Warmduscher or A.S.Y.S (before he left in 2005) left a big mark on me (btw. A.S.Y.S is still one of my favourites ;))That’s why acid sound is must-have in many of my tracks – I just love that sound.

SCOT PROJECT
Energetic and euphoric tracks, full of amazing melodies and heavy kicks. His music is refined down to every detail. I recommend listening closely his tracks. Every kick, snare, hat or lead works together in perfect harmony. Incredible. Frank has always stayed true to his style, which is important in such a fast-changing world. Actually, each of the artists I’ve mentioned has always stayed true to their sound and that’s probably what inspires me the most.

As you can see, each of them is different, but what they have in common is passion, perseverance and love for music. I could go on and on for a very long time, there are many great artists, Alex Di Stefano, Mark Sherry, David Forbes, Jay Lumen, Wehhba.

What is your favorite piece of software for music production?

Serum and Phoscyon2 from D16.
